BLR Airport and Frankfurt Airport sign MoU at Air Cargo India to build data-led, efficient cargo corridors between India and Europe.

Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (BLR), operated by Bangalore International Airport (BIAL), has entered into a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Frankfurt Airport (FRA) to strengthen air cargo connectivity between South India and Europe.
The MoU was signed on the sidelines of Air Cargo India and brings together two major global cargo gateways, BLR Airport, which serves one of India’s fastest-growing manufacturing and export regions, and Frankfurt Airport, one of Europe’s most connected and influential cargo hubs.
Under the agreement, both airports will establish a structured collaboration framework focused on joint trade lane analytics, digital corridor development, pharmaceutical cargo integrity standards, and knowledge exchange. The objective is to enhance shipment visibility, reduce cargo dwell times, and deliver more predictable and reliable service levels for airlines, freight forwarders, and shippers operating on the India–Europe corridor.
Commenting on the development, Girish Nair, Chief Operating Officer of Bangalore International Airport, said the partnership signals a strategic move toward integrated, data-driven cargo ecosystems. He noted that as BLR Airport continues to invest heavily in cargo infrastructure, technology, and capability development, such collaborations help convert these investments into efficient and scalable trade lanes for high-value and time-sensitive cargo.
“Our focus is on building a resilient, future-ready cargo ecosystem that can adapt to evolving trade dynamics and regulatory expectations, while creating long-term value for airlines, freight forwarders, and global trade partners,” Nair added.
From the European perspective, Alexander Laukenmann, Senior Executive Vice President Aviation at Fraport, described the partnership as a key step in creating a strong bridge between two major cargo and economic hubs. He said the collaboration is aligned with Frankfurt Airport’s vision of partnership-led innovation and is a cornerstone of its Frankfurt Cargo Hub Masterplan.
“This cooperation underlines our ambition to actively shape the future of international air cargo traffic by creating optimal conditions for customers and the wider cargo community,” Laukenmann said.
The agreement comes at a strategically significant time, as the recently concluded EU–India Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is expected to accelerate bilateral trade and air cargo volumes. With India–Europe trade flows set to scale up, efficient, digitally enabled cargo corridors such as the BLR–Frankfurt partnership are seen as critical to improving market access, enhancing supply chain resilience, and supporting sustainable growth in international air freight.
