The Bangladeshi government has permitted the use of Chittagong and Mongla ports for shipping products to merchants in Tripura and other northeastern states of India. The approved routes include Chittagong Port-Akhaura-Agartala, Mongla Port-Akhaura-Agartala, Chittagong-Bibirbazar-Srimantapur, and Mongla Port-Bibirbazar-Srimantapur. Santana Chakma, Industries and Commerce Minister of Tripura, stated that the agreement between India and Bangladesh aims to enhance transhipment of goods in the region.
Additionally, Tripura plans to establish nine ‘border haats’ for bilateral trade. The move comes after a trilateral conference involving Bangladesh, India, and Japan in Tripura to promote and facilitate trade cooperation.
