Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has initiated a pilot program for a doorstep cargo pickup service in Vijayawada.
Public Transport Department Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, announced the launch of Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC)’s doorstep cargo pickup service in Vijayawada.
The corporation collaborated with startup ShipMantra to facilitate the seamless pickup and delivery of goods. This initiative follows the RTC’s successful takeover of cargo services from a private operator, ANL parcel service, resulting in a substantial revenue increase from Rs 9 crore to Rs 169.20 crore.
Customers can access the service through the official RTC website. The doorstep pickup service, initiated last October, caters to a 10 km radius around 84 cities and towns in the state. The pilot program in Vijayawada sets the stage for a future expansion of the service to other cities.
Additionally, Rao mentioned the imminent introduction of 1,500 new buses within the next six months and the expedited procurement of 1,000 electric buses for various depots across the state. In a green initiative, the RTC also laid the foundation stone for a 499-kWp capacity rooftop solar plant at the Pandit Nehru Bus Station.
