In order to fulfil its promise to become a zero waste-to-landfill group by 2027, LATAM Cargo received the Corporate Innovation Award for its plastic reduction efforts in its cargo operations in Chile and Brazil.
For creating a temperature-controlled container for the delivery of medicinal supplies, SAT won the Start-ups and Innovators Innovation Award.
To make the container sustainable and energy independent, SAT “reinvented” it from the ground up using the following proprietary components: composite material (IP); architecture (IP); inflight detector (IP); control system; cooling system with redundancy; new battery packs; battery management system; and solar panel system.
IATA’s worldwide head of cargo, Brendan Sullivan stated, “Innovation holds the key to progress, sustainability, and success in the air cargo industry. That is why we founded the IATA Air Cargo Innovation Awards.
During the IATA WCS closing plenary, the finalists presented their projects to over 500 audience members, who then voted for their favourite innovation project. SAT was given $15,000 to develop their concept further. To stimulate and promote innovation in the air freight industry, the awards were introduced in 2014.
