India post achieves milestone by delivering its first ONDC order, enhancing e-commerce logistics for rural entrepreneurs.

The Department of Posts has achieved a significant operational milestone by successfully delivering its inaugural online order via the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). Acting as a Logistics Service Provider (LSP), the department booked the initial consignment on 13 January 2026 and completed the delivery on 15 January 2026.
This first order was placed through UdyamWell, an ONDC-enabled initiative dedicated to supporting “Bharatpreneurs” by providing essential services to artisans, farmers, and rural entrepreneurs. This integration represents a vital step in the department’s strategy to offer interoperable and digitally advanced logistics solutions across the nation.
The partnership allows sellers on ONDC-compatible buyer applications to utilise the extensive nationwide postal network for parcel collection, booking, transmission, and final delivery. Currently, the Department of Posts operates on the “Click & Book” model. This system enables sellers to generate digital pickup requests and select the postal service as their logistics partner. Parcels are collected directly from the seller’s premises, with postage settled at the point of pickup. Each consignment is then tracked and managed through technology-led systems.
Leveraging its unparalleled geographical reach and public service heritage, the inclusion of the postal service as an LSP on the ONDC platform is expected to fortify the national e-commerce landscape. This development facilitates greater inclusive participation for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and small-scale vendors throughout the country.
