Uber Direct, an ONDC-based B2B logistics service, launched in India, using two-wheelers for last-mile delivery, challenging rivals

Ride-hailing giant Uber has officially launched its business-to-business (B2B) last-mile delivery solution, Uber Direct, within the Indian market. This service operates through the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC).
The initial rollout began in Bengaluru, where the service is fulfilling grocery orders for partners like Zepto and KPN Farm Fresh. It is set to expand quickly to handle food deliveries for major quick-service restaurant (QSR) chains, including KFC and Burger King.
Uber Direct’s deployment relies primarily on the company’s extensive two-wheeler fleet. This strategy aims to maximise efficiency and affordability for enterprise clients.
The initiative leverages the same driver pool used for passenger transport and consumer courier jobs (Uber Courier). This transforms each motorcycle into a flexible asset, providing riders with multiple income streams.
By exclusively routing its B2B deliveries through the ONDC platform, Uber positions itself as a capacity provider for merchants who wish to avoid building dedicated logistics networks. This move places the firm in direct competition with established logistics providers in the quick-commerce segment.
