Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority records 19.5 lakh TEUs in Q1 FY26, driven by efficient container operations.

Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), India’s largest container port, reported a 15.52% rise in container throughput for the first quarter of FY2025-26. From April to June 2025, the port handled 19,50,188 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), up from the same period last year. Total cargo movement reached 24.20 million tonnes, reflecting a 10% year-on-year increase, according to an official release.
This performance underscores the port’s strong momentum, attributed to improved terminal efficiencies and better alignment of support services with rising demand. JNPA currently operates five container terminals: NSFT, NSICT, NSIGT, BMCT, and APMT. It also manages a shallow water berth for general cargo and two liquid cargo terminals, one operated by the BPCL-IOCL consortium, and the other, a new facility by JSW-JNPT Liquid Terminal.
In a strategic expansion move, JNPA is developing the Vadhvan Port in Maharashtra. Envisioned as India’s 13th major port, Vadhvan will be an all-weather, deep-draft, 100% greenfield port, aiming to rank among the world’s top 10 ports.
