NHAI rolls out engineering and awareness steps, from repairing signs to fog alerts, to enhance safety on highways this winter.
To address reduced visibility on National Highways during winter, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has directed its field offices to implement comprehensive measures ensuring safer travel for highway users.
Under ‘Engineering Measures,’ the initiative includes reinstalling damaged signs, refreshing faded markings, adding reflective markers, and installing solar blinkers at key points. Meanwhile, ‘Safety Awareness Measures’ focus on real-time fog alerts via variable message signs, public address systems, and electronic billboards. Awareness campaigns through radio, social media, and leaflet distribution at toll plazas will also inform drivers.
NHAI patrol vehicles will manage dense fog stretches, supported by teams conducting nighttime inspections to identify visibility issues and implement immediate solutions. Coordination drills with police and local authorities are also planned to handle fog-related emergencies effectively.
NHAI’s commitment to enhancing safety during foggy conditions demonstrates its dedication to seamless and secure highway travel this winter season.
