X-Press Feeders launches the Green Baltic X-PRESS route with Eco-Umande, boosting sustainable shipping in the Baltics.
X-Press Feeders, the world’s largest independent common carrier, has launched its second green methanol-powered feeder route, the Green Baltic X-PRESS (GBX). As part of Europe’s first scheduled feeder network powered by green methanol, the GBX route further strengthens the company’s commitment to sustainable shipping. This expansion follows the successful debut of the Green Finland X-PRESS (GFX) route in July.
The new route, operational as of August 23, connects ports in Rotterdam, Antwerp-Bruges, Klaipeda, and Riga. The launch is made possible by the addition of Eco-Umande, a dual-fuel vessel joining the fleet alongside Eco-Maestro and Eco-Levant. The vessel’s advanced design and 1,260 TEU capacity further bolster X-Press Feeders’ sustainable shipping capabilities.
“Building on the momentum of our first green methanol route, the Green Baltic X-PRESS enhances our feeder network with eco-friendly solutions,” said Francis Goh, COO of X-Press Feeders. The green methanol used in the network cuts greenhouse gas emissions by up to 65% and is certified under ISCC standards.
With increasing regulatory pressure, such as the EU’s emissions trading scheme and upcoming Fuel EU Maritime regulations, X-Press Feeders’ green methanol initiative aligns with the industry’s shift towards sustainable practices. Looking ahead, the company plans to expand its green feeder network across Europe with the continued delivery of 14 ordered dual-fuel vessels, offering shippers more environmentally friendly options.
