Russian government considers halting diesel exports due to increasing local prices.
The Russian government is contemplating a ban on diesel exports in response to rising domestic prices, according to a report by Kommersant, which cited several unnamed sources. Russia, the world’s leading seaborne exporter of diesel, slightly surpasses the United States in this regard.
Diesel is Russia’s most significant oil product export, totaling approximately 35 million metric tons annually, with nearly three-quarters transported via pipeline. Last autumn, Russia suspended diesel exports for about two weeks but later resumed pipeline supplies. Currently, Russia is limiting gasoline exports and plans to reinstate a ban on gasoline exports starting August 1.
A source cited by Kommersant mentioned that diesel exports might be banned if prices surge significantly, although no final decision has been made.
The Russian energy ministry did not respond to requests for immediate comment.
