A 13-member Bangladeshi delegation visits India to assess transhipment potential at East Coast ports, including Chennai, Krishnapatnam, Vishakhapatnam, Kolkata, and Haldia.
A thirteen-member delegation from Bangladesh is visiting India from the 9th to the 12th of July to explore the possibilities of transhipment of exim cargo from Bangladesh through Indian ports located on the East Coast. The delegation is led by S. M. Mostafa Kamal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Shipping, Bangladesh, and includes representatives from other key ministries and ports in Bangladesh.
The delegation’s visit to ports in Chennai, Krishnapatnam, Vishakhapatnam, Kolkata, and Haldia is part of the agreed-upon minutes from the India-Bangladesh Shipping Secretaries Level Talks held in Dhaka last December. The objective is to gain first-hand knowledge of the technical feasibility, commercial viability, and infrastructure facilities at these Indian ports to assess their potential for transhipment of Bangladeshi cargo.
In a statement, the Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Ministry emphasized the importance of this visit for enhancing regional connectivity and fostering economic cooperation between the two countries. Officials from the Inland Waterways Authority of India, the Director General of Shipping, and the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs are accompanying the visiting delegation to facilitate their assessment and provide detailed insights into the operational capabilities of the Indian ports.
The visit signifies a step forward in strengthening bilateral ties and exploring new avenues for logistical collaboration, which could significantly enhance the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of cargo movement between India and Bangladesh.
