Maersk will transport Vestas’ 260-ton wind turbine powertrains from Belgium to Denmark and Poland.
Maersk has been awarded a significant contract by Vestas, a leading Danish renewable energy company, to transport the powertrains of its largest wind turbine, the V236. This 260-ton component is crucial to the 15MW turbine and will be installed in the nacelle at Vestas’ factory in Lindø, Denmark. Utilising Maersk’s Project Logistics (MPL) capabilities, the transport will commence from Lommel, Belgium, and proceed via Antwerp to Lindø.
The V236 nacelle, weighing over 630 tons including the powertrain, represents just one of the major components involved in this project. At a later stage, Maersk will also transport these powertrains to a new Vestas factory in Poland, constructing a comprehensive supply chain solution for both Danish and Polish production sites. This includes handling containerized cargo, air freight, customs services, intermodal transport, and warehousing.
Damien Lhors, Group Senior Vice President of Global Supply Chain and Transport at Vestas, praised Maersk’s capabilities, stating, “An integrated supply chain solution designed with a strategic partner adds visibility and resilience to our operations, easing our complex logistics.”
Claus Svane Schmidt, Global Head of Maersk Project Logistics, expressed pride in the partnership, noting the complexity and significance of the project. “We are extremely honored to be the preferred and trusted partner for Vestas, showcasing our logistics capabilities and experience.”
Maersk’s MPL services span multiple industries, including renewable energy, power generation, automotive, industrial manufacturing, and government-contracted logistics. Their offerings encompass comprehensive planning, orchestration, and specialised transportation to manage the flow of project-related cargo tailored to each project’s unique requirements.
