Maersk enhances Colombian logistics with a new 44,000 sq.m. facility in Bogotá.
Maersk has strengthened its presence in Colombia by inaugurating a state-of-the-art container logistics centre in Bogotá’s Tocancipá industrial zone. Spanning 44,000 square meters, this facility is strategically located 47 kilometers north of Bogotá, offering customers improved access to their containers. This prime location reduces port and transport costs, minimises waiting times, and ensures the availability of empty containers, thereby enhancing supply chain reliability and operational efficiency.
The centre features a 3,378 square meter depot, a 23,000 square meter container storage area, and a 651 square meter refrigerated container storage area with capacity for 50 containers. It can handle up to 1,600 containers and is equipped with a depot management system. Services offered include container unloading and loading, full container storage, and on-site reach stackers. The facility incorporates sustainable practices like LED and solar lighting and the reuse of excavated materials during construction.
Additional services at the centre include consolidation and deconsolidation, maintenance and repair, preparation and inspection of containers, and the return and movement of containers. Efrain Osorio, Managing Director for Central America, Andean, and the Caribbean at Maersk, highlighted the centre’s innovative infrastructure and service levels, which offer greater logistical flexibility to Colombian customers.
He emphasised Colombia’s growth potential, citing rising import demand and steady exports of refrigerated fruits, vegetables, food products, textiles, and consumer goods. Maersk’s continued investment in logistics infrastructure aims to integrate sea, air, and land freight services, thereby expanding its capabilities to meet regional demand and support the entire supply chain.
