Meesho, the third-largest e-commerce player in India, unveils Valmo, a comprehensive logistics marketplace designed to enlist micro-entrepreneurs as partners for order deliveries in their localities.
Meesho has introduced Valmo, a holistic logistics marketplace, empowering local micro-entrepreneurs as delivery partners in their communities.
This move marks Meesho’s foray into logistics infrastructure, opening opportunities for local players to participate in the delivery network. While initially focused on Meesho’s orders, the platform may extend its services to other e-commerce companies, according to a Meesho executive.
Meesho aims to establish Valmo as a national logistics solution, eliminating entry barriers for local players and fostering business growth. The company is actively developing technological capabilities in-house and collaborating with Software as a Service (SaaS) providers. Partnerships with ElasticRun, FarEye, LoadShare, and Shipsy contribute to creating a robust tech stack for Valmo.
Currently facilitating over 9 lakh daily orders, Valmo constitutes nearly 18 percent of third-party e-commerce shipments in India. With approximately 3,000 micro-entrepreneurs serving as business partners, the initiative has generated 35,000 indirect jobs, showcasing the impact of engaging with local partners.
Meesho’s strategic move aligns with industry trends, where companies like Amazon and Myntra have ventured into building logistics infrastructure. As the third-largest e-commerce entity in India, Meesho positions Valmo to strengthen its logistical capabilities. While established players like Flipkart and Amazon maintain separate logistics units, Meesho continues to collaborate with existing partners like Delhivery, Shadowfax, XpressBees, and Ecom Express for its logistics requirements.
