In a startling incident, a 15-year-old boy has been taken into custody for allegedly orchestrating a car theft scam through a fake logistics website. The MRA Marg police are actively pursuing the key accused, Sanjay, who absconded with a car worth Rs 20 lakh.
The victim, a south Mumbai resident, sought to transport his car to Mathura, UP, last December. Falling prey to the deception, he discovered the fraudulent logistics website, paid a fee, and booked the transportation service. Two individuals, purportedly associated with the fake logistics firm, collected Rs 9,500 and the car from the complainant’s residence.
Suspicions arose the next day when the victim received an additional bill of Rs 39,270. An investigation by the police revealed that the mentioned address on the bill lacked any office, prompting the victim to cross-verify the website. It was then realised that the initially visited site was a sham.
While the juvenile mastermind is in custody, the police are intensifying efforts to apprehend Sanjay, the primary culprit in this elaborate car theft scam that exploited the trust of an unsuspecting resident.
