Global logistics giant UPS is significantly expanding its technology centers in India, aiming to triple its current footprint to nearly 190,000 sq. ft. by the end of 2024.
In a strategic move reaffirmed by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with Guidance, the Tamil Nadu government’s investment promotion agency, UPS is set to bolster its technology capabilities. The move builds on the initial investment of $15-$20 million announced in 2023, leading to the opening of its first technology center in Chennai in August that year.
The technology centers will foster collaboration with UPS’s global tech teams, emphasising in-house development of cutting-edge solutions. Beyond technological advancements, UPS showcases its commitment to social responsibility.
Initiatives include upskilling programs for rural students, the Women in Engineering Program, and the ‘Returnship Program,’ encouraging experienced professionals to re-enter the workforce.
Dr. Subramani Ramakrishnan, Vice President of UPS technology centers in India, expressed gratitude to the Tamil Nadu government, highlighting the region’s potential to drive global innovation. The expansion underscores UPS’s dedication to providing top-notch logistics services backed by digitisation, data analytics, and automation, promising an unparalleled experience for customers across industries.
