IIT Guwahati and Airbus India join hands to create advanced aviation training hub.
IIT Guwahati has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Airbus India to launch training programmes aimed at making Guwahati a leading aviation and logistics hub. Under this collaboration, IIT Guwahati will offer courses and provide infrastructure, while Airbus will supply trainers, tools, and materials for short-term training in the initial phase.
The partnership will allow IIT Guwahati faculty to lead train-the-trainer programmes, enabling them to deliver Airbus-certified courses independently. In the future, long-term courses are also planned.
The MoA, signed by IIT Guwahati Director Prof Devendra Jalihal and Airbus India VP Suraj Chettri, was formalised in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The Assam government, alongside northeastern states, will closely coordinate with the programme.
Chief Minister Sarma emphasised that the initiative will address the regional skills gap in aviation and logistics, training 2,000 students annually and boosting the Northeast’s competitiveness in global trade.
