India aims to export ₹50,000 crore in defence goods this year, with a ₹3 lakh crore target set for 2029, says MoS Defence.

The central government has set an ambitious target of ₹3 lakh crore in defence exports by 2029, Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth announced during a press briefing in Shimla. For the current fiscal year, the export target stands at ₹50,000 crore.
Seth highlighted India’s transformation from a major importer to an exporter of defence materials, noting that last year, the country exported equipment worth ₹23,500 crore to 92 nations. He credited the shift to the government’s push for self-reliance, citing the availability of domestically made bulletproof jackets and boots as examples of progress.
Referring to the broader success of the NDA government over the past 11 years, Seth emphasised India’s growing global stature and resilience. He also praised the country’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, pointing out India’s development of two vaccines and its humanitarian outreach to 118 countries.
